A board certified psychiatrist with 25 years of experience, Cleve Shirey, MD, serves as a staff psychiatrist for the residential treatment center Sierra Tucson in Arizona. He concentrates his practice on treating patients for substance abuse issues, mood disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In charge of multidisciplinary treatment teams, Cleve Shirey, MD, directs the combined application of conventional psychiatric techniques with multiple integrative methods, such as somatic experiencing, mindfulness training, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing.

Prior to joining Sierra Tucson, Dr. Cleve Shirey worked as a staff psychiatrist for the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System. In that role, he performed clinical outpatient treatment for 540 veterans living with a broad array of conditions ranging from dementia to neuropsychiatric disorders. For several years, he served as founding director of the psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and psychiatric consultation center Meridian Consulting Group in Anchorage, Alaska. He also worked as a staff and consulting psychiatrist for other mental health organizations in Alaska and operated a private practice in Anchorage, where he administered psychotherapeutic and pharmaceutical treatments for patients with neuropsychiatric, mood, and thought disorders.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Shirey has delivered numerous continuing medical education presentations on topics as diverse as the incorporation of spirituality into medical care and treatment approaches for Alzheimer's disease. He maintains membership in the Neuroscience Education Institute and previously served as a psychiatry lecturer for the University of Washington School of Medicine's Alaska Family Practice Residency program.
